Last month the newly hired SSMR Wardens began their training on how to recognise and treat hard corals within the marine reserve that have been affected by Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease (SCTLD).
This is a deadly coral disease that reached Dominica in 2021 year and local dive operators have been battling against it to preserve some of the amazing hard corals found here in the SSMR. With the addition of the Wardens to the coral response team (previously made up of volunteers and dive shop staff), there is hope that the spread of this disease can be curtailed.
